The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Ali Mohammed, has cleared the police of shooting at enraged youths during a protest that claimed one life, left two gravely injured, and destroyed property worth millions of naira.
The commissioner of police, who spoke to press after seeing the extent of destruction at the protest site, denounced the irate adolescents’ actions.
The enraged teenagers had held a demonstration against the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the Delta State cities of Otovwodo Ughelli and Effurun.
At the Otovwodo axis, the youngsters set fire to 12 trucks carrying petroleum products and granites.
The mood remains tense, with passersby spotted raising their hands as they move through the area to prevent any kind of security breach.
So far, approximately 16 people have been arrested in connection with the protest. Meanwhile, the Delta State Government has issued an appeal to calm as investigations begin.
