Dr. Leo Zekeng, Country Director for UNAIDS, claims that the Global Fund’s involvement has contributed to a 45% reduction in new HIV infections globally.
During the 7th replenishment preconference on Saturday in Abuja, Zekeng said that the Global Fund was crucial in the fight against HIV.
One of the most important participants in our collective response to AIDS as a public health hazard by 2030 is the Global Fund, which is important to UNAIDS and the HIV response.
“Global Fund represents 25% of the international funding for the HIIV response and offers funding to over 100 nations to prepare and respond to AIDS epidemic,” he said. The head of UNAIDS praised the Fund for saving lives worldwide and accomplishing what was once deemed impossible.
He claims that the effects of GF have resulted in a 65% decrease in the overall number of AIDS-related deaths.
He continued by saying that now that they have access to medication, people with HIV are free to enjoy life just like HIV-negative people.
Zekeng reaffirmed UNAIDS’ commitment to ongoing cooperation with GF in order to improve health systems, construct infrastructure for the delivery of healthcare, and train healthcare workers.
The country director expressed optimism that by 2030, at least 18 billion GF will be raised by the global community to combat the AIDS pandemic and other terrible diseases. He urged donors and recipient nations to unite in the battle for what mattered by carrying out the 7th GF replenishment successfully.
The 7th Replenishment conference of the GF will take place in the United States later in September, according to Journalist.
The world is expected to take decisive action to safeguard everyone and every place against the most lethal infectious diseases, such as TB, malaria, and HIV.
The goal of the intervention is to increase pandemic preparation, create resilient and sustainable health systems, and increase global equity. (NAN)
