
Lawrence Fadipe, the Chairman National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Jabi Motor Park, has called on the government to do all it can to end the insecurity currently ravaging the country, stating that the rate of killings and kidnappings is on the rise.
Lawrence in a chat with Public Intel Security Africa PISA, said drivers go out of their way risking lives to protect the passengers who make use of public transport, noting that, majority of those involved in crimes in Nigeria are the youths due to frustration and lack of jobs after graduation from institution of learning. Adding that the kidnappers most times have specific target areas which they operate. The NURTW Jabi Motor Park Chairman, Lawrence Fadipe has urged the Government authorities to look into such areas like Bwari, Kubwa-Zuba road amongst other, and Kaduna-Abuja highway, which has recently become places of hideouts for the criminal elements.

He further shared more lights on how the drivers have also taken the responsibility of checking on each other on the road as they journey to different locations, as a step to keep themselves safe.
Speaking on behalf of the road transport workers, Lawrence expressed their worries over the condition of the roads they travel, which has given the bandits a lot of control due to its poor state. For them, it is one thing to travel and another to return home to their loved once safely as many of their colleagues have lost their lives.

Passengers at the park aired their opinions of the recent kidnappings and killings noting that they don’t feel safe travelling within Abuja and environs due to the rate of Kidnappings.

Ugochukwu, a frequent young business traveler say he can no longer catch some sleep as usual during long trip he keeps himself busy either by clinging unto their phones, listening to music or most times interacting with other passengers or the driver.
