The corpses of 15 farmers who perished in a boat accident were allegedly found in Gwamtamu village of Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State on Saturday, as the nation celebrated its 62nd anniversary of independence.
According to reports, the event happened when the farmers were attempting to collect their crops from a property that was submerged.

Over 50 farmers were reportedly in 12 boats traveling around to harvest their corn when the canoes crashed due to intense rain and wind.
About 50 farmers were in the canoes, and the majority of them tumbled out into the river. Only 15 remains had been found as of Saturday, and many more were still unaccounted for, a source added.
At the time this report was sent, a search team had been dispatched to the area and was working to locate further bodies.
The state police headquarters has not yet been told on the event, according to police image maker DSP Usman Abdullahi.
He did, however, promise to update everyone as soon as the command obtains specific information regarding the occurrence.
