The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has stated that it will work with financial institutions to grant start-up loans to corps members who want to launch their own businesses.
Brigadier-General Mohammad Fadah, the Director General of NYSC, announced this during the closing ceremony of the 2022 Batch ‘B’ Stream Two orientation course at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Ikot Itie Udung in Nsit Atai Local Government Area.
Fadah, who was represented by State Coordinator Mrs. Chinyere Ekwe, stated that starting a business will increase self-sufficiency and motivate corps members to contribute significantly to the economy.
He praised corps members for their dedication to the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program’s entrepreneurial training in the camp.
He encouraged corps members to expand on their abilities by taking advantage of post-camp training options to become self-employed.
“On our side, we are liaising with financial institutions and other stakeholders in the hope of securing start-up funds to enable you to realize your company ideas,” Fadah stated.
“I want to assure you that management will continue to look for ways to improve the program’s impact.”
He cautioned corps members against using social media to spread hatred, instead advising them to use the platform to promote national unity, peace, and prosperity.
The director general advised them to be security vigilant at all times and urged employers to accept and make the appropriate provisions for the wellbeing of the corps.
“I also urge on other stakeholders, including as state and local government officials and traditional rulers, to provide the necessary encouragement to the youth corps members,” he added.
