At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, 442 packets of crystal methamphetamine were discovered that were being shipped to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, hidden inside the heads of smoked fish packaged in cartons.
Agents from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) found the hard drugs in the airport’s SAHCO export shed.
A 32-year-old freight agent named Adekunle Paul from Kogi State’s Yagba West Local Government Area carried the 11.90kg shipment on Friday, August 5, according to a statement from the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi.
He claimed that after it was discovered that the seven containers Paul had submitted for shipment contained packages of the hazardous narcotic wrapped in foil paper and hidden under the heads of hundreds of smoked catfish, Paul was quickly apprehended.
The following day, on Saturday, August 6, NDLEA agents also stopped a shipment of cannabis weighing 1.45 kg that was headed to Dubai, United Arab Emirates. They also detained the freight agent, Ajisefini Lateef, who had presented the shipment for export at the SAHCO shed. The agent, who is 39, is from Ogun State’s Abeokuta West LGA, according to the statement.
Similar to this, anti-narcotic officials detained 50-year-old Mgbeobuna Eberechukwu at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu State for consuming 77 cocaine pellets.
After arriving on an Ethiopian Airlines flight from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Eberechukwu was detained on Saturday, August 6. The suspect, who is from Anambra State’s Idemili South Local Government Area, is alleged to have consumed 77 wraps of the illegal substance over the course of eight excretions spread over four days.
Saifullahi Sani, Salisu Nafi’u, and Abdulrazaq Mamman, three suspects in Kaduna State, were apprehended with 1,112,350 Tramadol (225mg and 100mg) tablets totaling 38.3kg on Thursday, August 11.
While a 28-year-old female drug dealer named Saratu Abdullahi was apprehended in Hotoro with 541 blocks of cannabis weighing 245kg, the NDLEA discovered 1,773.25kg of cannabis sativa in separate raid operations on August 9 and 10 in the Mushin and Ebutte-Meta districts of Lagos State.
During a combined inspection with Customs and other security authorities at the Tincan seaport in Lagos, 86 packets of cannabis indica (Colorado) weighing 43kg were discovered inside a 40-foot container.
The illicit cargo that was confiscated on Friday, August 12, was hidden within two drums inside a Mercedes Benz SUV in a container and originated in Toronto via Montreal, Canada.
