The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a N1.835 billion procurement of utility vehicles, security gadgets, and accessories to support security agencies operating within the FCT.
Following the FEC meeting on Wednesday, the Minister of the FCT, Mohammed Bello, revealed that 60 utility vehicles equipped with communication devices will be purchased for that amount and delivered within two months.
Furthermore, the FCT minister stated that the Council approved the supply of various security gadgets and accessories worth N847.1 million to support security agencies in the nation’s capital.
The total value of the two purchases is N2.68 billion.
In the same vein, the Council approved the purchase of N1.4 billion in vehicles for the Niger Republic.
Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, told the press that President Muhammadu Buhari approved the purchase, which is part of efforts to assist the Niger Republic in its fight against insecurity.
She explained that the President, whose actions she cannot question, has the authority to assess situations and issue directives as he sees fit.
According to her, the financial assistance is being provided in response to a request from the Nigerien government and is also in the best interests of the country.
Her remark came just hours after an independent journalist, David Hundeyin, shared a photo of a budget office document detailing the payment and questioned the government’s decision.
The Federal Government’s confirmation, however, has sparked outrage among Nigerians, with many criticizing the move.
