Members of the Orlu caucus in the Imo State House of Assembly have disowned the Conference of United Political Parties (CUPP) Spokesperson, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, over his claim of voter registration fraud, particularly in Omuma, the home of Governor Hope Uzodimma.
The caucus is the biggest, with members from all 12 LGAs in the Orlu zone, regardless of political party membership.
The CUPP spokesman comes from Ideato North, one of the Orlu zone’s local government units, and is also the House of Representatives candidate for Ideato North and South in the 2023 general election.
At a press conference in Owerri on Saturday, the caucus’ Chairman and Deputy Speaker of the Imo House of Assembly, Chyna Iwuanyanwu, said the caucus was outraged by “the baseless, spurious, and irresponsible allegation by a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ideato North/Ideato South federal constituency, one Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere against His Excell
The caucus was also concerned that only Imo was singled out in their probe, despite the fact that the report included 22 states.
“The public domain claim is that the voters’ list in Omuma has been inflated to provide the APC an unfair edge in next year’s general elections.” Ugochinyere said that he and an unknown group conducted an inquiry into voter list fraud in all APC states, but only that of Imo was made public.
“While various respectable groups have risen to denounce this act of extreme recklessness by a person with a long history of severe irresponsibility, we wish to state unequivocally our disgust and grief that this vermin of political agafe emanates from Orlu zone.”
“However, our analysis suggests that the aforementioned Ugochinyere was hired to carry out this hatchet job.” The disputed ticket granted to him by the PDP appears to have been exploited to shackle him to the extent of betraying his own brother and people,” the caucus observed.
