As part of the Nigerian Army’s efforts in Civil Military Cooperation, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), dedicated a 1,000-seat Town Hall on Friday, September 9, 2022, in Akinmoorin, Afijio Local Government Area, Oyo State (NA).
In his remarks at the commissioning event, the COAS stated that the Nigerian Army, under his leadership, would keep giving back to the community in appreciation for their cooperation and support in helping the army fulfill its constitutional responsibility.
He asked them to uphold the harmony and tranquility he had seen in the neighborhood for the sake of the state of Oyo and the entire country, adding that the building should be used for the benefit of the neighborhood as a whole.
Gen. Yahaya also took advantage of the occasion to thank the Nigerian Army’s commanders and soldiers for their dedication and sacrifices in safeguarding the country, and he urged them to continue their commitment to the ongoing struggle against security threats in the nation.
Major General Olufemi Akinjobi, a native of the Akinmoorin community and the project’s executor, said in his welcoming speech that the project’s successful completion and commissioning represents a notable milestone for the Akinmoorin Kingdom.
He pointed out that the initiative is a component of the COAS’ special intervention project and the community’s long-sought after desire.
The COAS’s honoring of the Kingdom by approving and personally commissioning the project was acknowledged by Gen. Akinjobi. He pledged the community’s support for the COAS’s goal, the nation’s advancement, peace, and development.
Principal Staff Officers from Army Headquarters, Corps Commanders, General Officers Commanding (GOC) 2 and 81 Divisions, Heads of Security Agencies, His Royal Highness, Oba Solomon Iyiola Akinyemi, the Amoorin of Akinmoorin, Oyo State Government officials, Retired military officers, and members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), among other dignitaries, attended the event.
