The Chinese military continued large-scale sea and air drills around Taiwan on Monday.
Despite its earlier announcement that Chinese maneuvers around Taiwan will conclude on Sunday, the practice continues.
According to NAN, China’s official television said the exercises centered on “anti-submarine and sea assault operations.”
China first stated that the maneuvers to the north, south-west, and east of the self-ruled island would be completed by Sunday when they were announced last Tuesday.
However, no formal end date has been established as of yet.
Indeed, some Chinese media analysts suggested that the military drills could become the new normal.
The drills, according to Wu Qian, are a “essential warning” to the United States and Taiwan, and are a “absolutely logical and appropriate” response to their recent “provocations.”
Wu claimed that Washington was “deliberately” inflaming relations, with US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi visiting Taipei last week in the face of fierce resistance from Beijing.

Because the island is considered part of the Chinese mainland, the Chinese leadership rejects official interaction with Taipei.
Taiwan, on the other hand, has long seen itself as self-sufficient.
According to Chinese media, the Chinese military has been practicing not only a naval and air blockade, but also amphibious landing capability to launch beach assaults on Taiwan.
