At a lengthy ceremony on Saturday at St. James’ Palace in London, Charles III took an oath and was formally crowned.
The Accession Council made a formal announcement about his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
Charles III was subsequently proclaimed king.
Before the paperwork were signed, the 200 or so persons present in the chamber collectively prayed, “God preserve the King.”
According to the BBC, flags that were lowered in honor of the late Queen will briefly fly at full mast.
Recall that in his inaugural speech to the country yesterday, the King vowed to emulate the life of devotion of his “darling mama.”
The Queen, the monarch with the longest reign in the UK, passed away quietly on Thursday afternoon at Balmoral Castle. She was 96 years old.
Charles is the oldest monarch to ever ascend to the throne of Britain, breaking William IV’s record of 64 years old that had stood since 1830.
The first child of his mother and Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Charles was born in Buckingham Palace.
He was also the first grandchild of King George VI and his wife, Queen Elizabeth.
Charles carried out Elizabeth II’s formal business as the Prince of Wales. In addition to sponsoring the Prince’s Charities and serving as the patron, president, or member of more than 400 additional charities and organizations, he launched the youth charity The Prince’s Trust in 1976. He has argued in favor of architectural preservation and the value of the built environment.
Charles, a modernist architecture critic, attempted to build Poundbury, an experimental new town based on his tastes in design. In addition, he has written or co-written several books.
