The government of Borno State has started training storekeepers to improve their performance and output.
The State Head of Service, Barrister Simon Malgwi, opened the training session on Monday in Maiduguri and declared it to be in keeping with the administration’s training and retraining policy to increase productivity.
Malgwi emphasized the importance of store keepers in any organization’s efforts to ensure accountability, transparency, and probity.
He bemoaned the instances of retired public servants removing government property from their offices and said that store officers, who are in charge of inventorying offices, needed to rein in such excesses.
“I am aware of some situations in which individuals will merely want something for their own private use.
Malgwi instructed the store officers, “You have the responsibility to check and prevent this kind of abuses.”
He mentioned that the public procurement bill had received the state governor’s approval to ensure due procedure in government operations that required all workers’ cooperation to be successful.
Malgwi stated that in order to assist the government in maintaining accurate records, business owners must be aware of what is purchased and from which office it is being issued.
For optimal benefit, he advised them to pay close attention to the training, and to take advantage of the chance to pass it down to their subordinates.
The training’s consultant, Mr. Wakil Abbas, stated in his remarks that store management plays a strategic role in organizations. The training’s theme was “Effective Store Management in the Public Sector.”
According to Abbas, the course was created to provide the participants with modern methods for handling official documents and expose them to best practices.
Papers presented included “Store Regulations: An Overview”, “Management and Control of Stores Operation”, “Security and Safety in the Stores”, “Procurement and Materials Management” and “Effective Store Management in the Public”.
