On Wednesday evening, seven family members in Auki village, Bungidu Local Government Area, Zamfara State, perished from food poisoning.
The family, which consisted of two housewives and their five children, died after eating their tuwon dawa dinner (guinea corn food).
According to Mohammed Mas’ud, a local who narrated the incident to Newsmen, the family suffered a stomach disorder right after eating dinner, and three of them passed away instantly.
Four more family members died after being taken to Bungudu General Hospital along with other family members.
Dr. Gambo Tsafe, the hospital’s medical director, confirmed that the hospital’s investigation had revealed that the victims had died from food poisoning after consuming tainted food.
The deceased were vomiting and stomping when they were taken to the hospital, according to Gambo, who also said that all attempts to save their lives were unsuccessful.
The husband, Hassan Lawali, was unable to speak because he was in the wrong frame of mind after losing his family and did not eat the food because he was not home when the fatal meal was served.
Malam Lawali Auki, the father of Hassan, claimed that the family did not notify any authorities about the incident.
He explained, “I didn’t think it was necessary to report the case to any authority because they were not killed by anyone.
There was no reason to call the police because the family members cooked and consumed the food.
