Mr Micheal Ogungbemi, Chairman of Ajoni Local Council Development Area in Ekiti State, says four persons have been detained on suspicion of killing a civil defence personnel, Segun Ayebulu, and kidnapping his family members.
On Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti, Ogungbemi informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the suspects were apprehended by the Ajoni community vigilante group, code-named ‘Operation Eradicate Bandits.’
According to the chairman, members of the vigilante organization apprehended the suspects while patrolling along the border between Ekiti and Kwara States.
The suspects allegedly admitted to killing the NSCDC officer and abducted his family members, according to him.
According to Ogungbemi, two AK47 rifles were retrieved from the accused, who were being held at the Ikole Ekiti police station.
According to NAN, Ayebulu was shot dead by gunmen on September 3 while driving home to Kogi with other members of his family along the Oke-Ako-Irele-Ekiti road.
