The town of Agosasa in Ogun State’s Ipokia Local Government Area has reportedly had three fatalities as a result of the Obaship tussle.

After the first Oja of Agosasa, Oba James Elegbede, passed away in February 2022, the community had been divided on who would succeed him as ruler.
According to reports, the Obaship contest reached a breaking point last Sunday when the youngsters of Agosasa rushed to the streets to protest the election of an unpopular candidate as the new Oja.
According to a source, Otunba Akeem Adigun, a socialite and APC member, is trying to install a king, but the young people of Agosasa are against it.
According to reports, five people were hurt and transported to the hospital last Sunday when the face-off began.
“The situation last Sunday evening was averted thanks to the actions of soldiers, police officers, and traditionalists. I couldn’t go through the town on my way home, a resident of Ipokia said to Newsmen.
According to the insider, things became out of control last Monday with the assassination of Nafiu Amosun, who was thought to be the candidate that the young people of Agosasa were most loyal to.
“The irate teenagers claimed that the current state of anarchy in the town was brought on by the other faction’s shooting death of the aforementioned Nafiu Amosun close to the Afa river.
“As of late Monday evening, some irate youths set fire to the residences and vehicles owned by Akeem Adigun, a former council chairman and appointment of the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, Isiaka Aderounmu, and others. “Two additional people were also reported dead, bringing the total number of fatalities from the melee to three.
“Agosasa is currently like a ghost town with a lot of police and military presence. As those who may evacuate are already leaving the town, residents are within. Several people are escaping via the forest. It is out of control,” a second insider claimed. It was learned that the town’s chiefs and elders are also on the run for fear of having their homes destroyed.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state police public relations officer (PPRO), acknowledged the occurrence when he was called, stating that, to the best of his knowledge, only one individual had been shot and killed.
He said, “The Agosasa event is an Obaship tussle. Sadly, one individual was killed by gunfire. We discovered that some residences and vehicles were demolished. But our troops are on the ground. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, is in charge of the operation.
The situation has returned to normal, and our troops are on the ground to prevent the problem from getting worse.
We don’t need to bleed blood over Obaship titles, Oyeyemi added, so individuals shouldn’t enact laws on their own for any reason. He also claimed that the Obaship dispute should have been handled by the court.
Who will the new king rule over if everyone in the town had been slaughtered before the installation? It is not worthwhile. No one’s ambition is worth anyone else’s blood. Instead of resorting to violence, we should learn how to resolve conflicts through lawful means. No one is paid for it.
