Drug offenders in the state should be put on trial as soon as possible, according to Mrs. Ekaete Egwunwoke, the NDLEA‘s commander in Gombe State.
This was said by her during an interview she gave to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Gombe.
Egwunwoke stated that all stakeholders needed to act quickly and decisively in response to the state’s high rate of drug offenses.
She encouraged the Justice Ministry to work with the court to expedite the resolution of drug-related legal proceedings.
Egwunwoke voiced worry over the public’s response to the rising rate of drug and substance misuse among young people in the state.
According to her, if the state’s drug and substance misuse problem is not controlled, it might go out of control and have terrible impacts on people’s lives and property.
The commander claimed that because of the nation’s challenging economic climate, some young people have turned to drug use as a means of committing crimes.
She pleaded with guarded parents and community people to report drug traffickers to the proper authorities for the proper punishment.
Egwunwoke complimented Gombe state governor Inuwa Yahaya for appointing 500 young people to the state Security, Traffic, and Environmental Corps (GOSTEC) and for hiring 1,000 teachers.
