President Muhammadu Buhari is set to leave Abuja on Sunday for the United Nations’ 77th General Assembly (UNGA77).
His media assistant, Femi Adesina, confirmed in Abuja on Saturday that he will address the UNGA on September 21.
“In addition to his National Statement, the president will attend high-level meetings and side activities, such as the Nigeria International Economic Partnership Forum (NIEPF),” Mr Adesina said.
Nigeria is hosting the event in collaboration with the Business Council for International Understanding.
Adesina also stated that the president will take part in the EFCC-NEPAD program to tackle illegal money flows.
“While in New York, President Buhari will also undertake crucial bilateral discussions with international leaders, prominent investors, and heads of multinational organizations,” he said.
“A watershed moment: Transformative solutions to interconnected issues,” is the subject of the 77th session, which began on Tuesday, September 13.
The war in Ukraine, the global energy crisis, climate action, and halting the COVID-19 epidemic are among the key themes of debate at the UNGA this year.
The UNGA will also convene a special meeting on education transformation.
The president’s entourage includes his wife, Aisha, as well as governors, ministers, and other government officials.
The president is scheduled to return to the country on Monday, September 26.
