On Tuesday night, bandits killed five people and kidnapped eight others in Kpampo village, near Gulu town in Niger state’s Lapai administrative region.
Shuaibu Usman, a native of Gulu and a relative of one of the abducted victims, verified the occurrence over the phone with our reporter on Wednesday.
He said that robbers in huge numbers, holding sophisticated weapons, drove into the neighborhood on motorbikes around 11:46 p.m. on Tuesday and began firing intermittently into the air.
Usman claimed that the bandits, who acted ruthlessly amid occasional gunfire, killed five residents who tried to flee their homes.
During the raid, the robbers allegedly kidnapped eight people, including two housewives, and carried them away at gunpoint.
Usman further stated that four people were shot and were being treated at a private hospital in Gulu town. Furthermore, several peasants who escaped the onslaught have sought sanctuary in Gulu town.
“As I speak to you, four persons with gunshot wounds are being treated here in Gulu town,” he added.
He claimed the robbers also robbed various stores, including pharmacies, and stole food, medications, and booze.
When called, the Niger State Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Wasiu Abiodun, requested our reporter to allow him time to learn more about the event from the DPO in charge of the Lapai division and to get back to us later.
