Umar Adoro, Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kaduna State, launched community advocacy visits on Tuesday to garner assistance in the battle against drug misuse and trafficking.

According to Reports, Adoro was visiting the palaces of the village heads of Anguwan Makeri and Gonin Gora in Chikun Local Government as part of his campaign.

He stated that it was critical to meet with traditional leaders at the grassroots level in order to obtain firsthand knowledge on the drug usage problem in their communities.

According to the commander, this is critical since the threat of illicit drug trafficking and usage has disproportionately hit the grassroots.

He noted that the visit was necessary due to the areas’ proximity to the critical Kaduna-Abuja route.

According to him, the NDLEA relies on key stakeholders to carry out its activities, hence it is critical to constantly increase awareness and sensitize stakeholders to be a part of the campaign on the risks of illegal drugs.

According to Adoro, the Agency captured 10 tons of illegal chemicals in the state between January and August.

As a result, he urged all stakeholders to continue cooperating with the Agency by providing accurate and timely information on drug pushers’ actions in order to stem the tide.

The commander warned the traditional leaders that the fight against illegal drugs is a common obligation to defend society, not only for security services.

“Traditional institutions have a key role to play because you are also essential stakeholders in combating the threat,” he continued.

Adoro encouraged the youngsters to constantly engage in meaningful endeavors that would benefit their communities.

Mr Yohanna Makeri, the village chief of Anguwan Makeri, welcomed the visit and praised the agency for its efforts in the battle against illegal substances.

Makeri stated that he has been monitoring the progress in the battle against drug trafficking in the nation and told the commander that they will work together to combat the issue.

Mr John Yusuf-Sarki, District Head of Gonin Gora, also complimented the NDLEA for the visit, calling it as opportune.

He promised to help and collaborate with the Agency in the battle against illegal substances and trafficking.
