According to the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), seven militants of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) were killed in Nigeria’s southeast area between August 25 and September 8, 2022.

According to a statement acquired by POLITICS NIGERIA from Major-General Musa Danmadami, the Director, Defence Media Operations, the rebels were slain in separate confrontations at Idemiri in Anambra State’s Ihiala Local Government Area (LGA) and Izombe in Imo State’s Oguta LGA.

While military killed two IPOB members in Idemiri on August 29, men from the Imo State Police Command murdered five IPOB militants in Izombe days earlier in a gun fight.

“The military and other security services have maintained the momentum in the war against the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and other criminalities within the zone,” said Major-General Danmadami in a statement.

“As a result, troops conducted operational actions in Imo State’s Orsu and Oguta Local Government Areas, as well as Anambra State’s Ihiala and Idemili North Local Government Areas and Abia State’s Ohafia Local Government Area.”

“Notably, on August 29, 2022, troops on fighting patrol came into contact with suspected Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network criminals at Idemiri in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State. During the encounter, two of the criminals were neutralized, while others fled with gunshot wounds.”

“In other news, the Imo State Police raided the Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network criminal camp in Izombe in Imo State’s Oguta Local Government Area.” The hoodlums attacked the cops in a gunfight but were defeated.

“Five Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network criminals were neutralized during the operation, while three pump action guns, two locally made double barrels guns, four locally made pistols, four Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and other weapons and assorted ammunition, military and police uniforms, large quantities of assorted hard drugs, and other items were recovered from the suspected criminals.”

“All recovered objects have been turned over to the appropriate authorities for future action.”
