POLICE KILL FIVE KIDNAPPERS WHILE RESCUING ONE CAPTIVE IN EDO
According to the Edo State Police, the Command on Sunday eliminated five (5) suspected kidnappers and freed one (1) captive, recovering weapons and ammunition from the engagement.
The command revealed that it had got reliable information regarding hoodlums suspected of being kidnappers operating in Ughoshi-Afe bush, Ibillo in Akoko Edo LGA in a statement sent through its deputy public relations officer, Jennifer Iwegbu.
The command quickly organized its tactical team members from the Ibillo area and, along with vigilantes and hunters, proceeded to the scene after receiving the information, the police official said.
When the agents were spotted by the suspected kidnappers, they reportedly opened fire on them, starting a gunfight that left five (5) of the kidnappers fatally wounded.
One kidnap victim, 38-year-old Innocent, is reported to have been unharmed when he was freed and has already been reunited with his family.
Two locally made pistols, several fetish items, and ammunition were all found at the scene.
The Edo State Command’s Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro, praised the officers for their bravery and reassured the public that the command will keep working with the necessary parties and law-abiding citizens to maintain Edo State’s safety going forward.
